This lovely stick insect (phasmid/katydid) was crawling on my head as I fed eucalyptus branches to the koalas.
The beetle/bug looked metallic, but in the picture it kinda looks transparent. The balconies above the entrance are soon to be ours, for the rest of the season anyway.
The other business was supper with friends at the Sanctuary Market. A section of Burleigh Heads National Park was turned to ash in mid-October (http://www.goldcoastbulletin.com.au/news/burleigh-headland-smouldering-after-large-fire-destroys-part-of-the-national-park/story-fnj94j0t-1227091790200). Six weeks on, grasses have establish a significant foothold. There is still risk of major erosion and rock falls it the area gets hit with heavy rains, but it is looking a whole lot better.
Lunch today was grilled baramundi and chicken snitzel with a view at Bureigh Heads SLSC. Orb weaver spider of the garden variety (I think).
SUP, dog? Blue blubber jellyfish on the incoming tide up Currumbin Creek. Vids on my YouTube channel. We walked down the hill, across the creek, along the boardwalk to Palm Beach and up Jefferson Lane to the surf club. Another glorious sky to start the day. Bused to lunch - California corn tortilla fish tacos vs Wahoo wheat flatbread fish tacos. Both have merits. It will take more sampling to declare a winner of the taste tests!
We walked the mid-level trail at the National Park and did not see the fire scar on the lower level from any point on that path. From the Tumgun Lookout we can see beaches from north of surfers all the way down to Coolangatta. I managed, with my little camera, to capture a dragonfly in flight. Saw kookaburras, turtles, an eel, ducks and tumbleweeds before lunch. Roast lamb for two at the Tugun Tavern. Butterflies and a walk by a park we usually only drive by.
Interesting sign in the produce section of Tugun Market. Living space balcony view at 4:30 AM. Tweed Heads Aussie walk of fame. Stars in sidewalk - I admit to not knowing most of the names. Had some fun on the way home, with the Tugun Market murals. A pair of scaly breasted lorikeets.
About an hour after the kookaburras woke us we were treated to a glorious sunrise through the gum trees. One of our regular cockies had his morning drink and taxied down the balcony rail for a take-off. Frangipani trees at our Sanctuary bus stop. Bused past the Burleigh Bowls on the way to Broadbeach for a sticky-beak. Looked at the Oasis shops, went to Kurrawa SLSC beach & walked back to Pacific Fair to catch a bus south. Lunch at Palm Beach SLSC (again!). Managed to walk another beach after lunch. Back up the hill, Jan had a surprise guest in her shower (those are 4 inch high tiles!). So, it wasn't a perfect perfect day, but like I said - pretty much perfect!
