Early morning light and a mass exodus of lorikeets (ooh, video!) as seen from a south facing apartment window. The sunset colours are looking west from another room. Between dawn & dusk I worked a shift at CWS as a Park Volunteer. (posted separately)

Public transit all the way. We ride the SurfSide bus #700 to its endpoint at Broadbeach South and transfer to the G:Link, Gold Coast City's light rail. We stayed on the G to its terminus in Helensvale, where one can connect to the big trains to get to Brisbane & beyond. We exited the station & walked to Westfield Mall for a walk-around. On our return trip I shot a schwack of little video clips out of the train window. They provide a good feel of our current urban/suburban environment.
I have already posted separately for a ride on the G-link light rail, and for a monster storm that tracked over us, but those are just two episodes in a long day. As usual, we were up to greet the sun and listen to the lorikeets leave their roosts. We drove to Stocklands, and the to the Pines for some early morning shopping, and, as we had the car out, we parked at Currumbin Vikings SLSC where we cashed in on a free breakfast that was included as a membership bonus.
After we re-parked the car at home we took the bus & train to Southport so Jan could finally re-connect with her favorite big girl & teddy bear statues in the Broadwater Parklands. We did some minor shopping and outdoor art gazing before hopping back onto the G for rest of the rail trip to Helensvaile. After the massive storm cell passed us we felt fortunate to see a bit of sunset colors. We watched this monster storm cell come over the hinterland and swoop down onto the Gold Coast. Lightning. Thunder. Driving rain. Howling winds. Glad we were safe & dry inside with all the windows closed. Nice views from three sides of the building.
Monthly markets are designated by the day of week and week of month. The Burleigh Heads Arts & Crafts Market runs on the last Sunday. From our balcony vantage, we watched them set up, and then went down for a wander. Came home with pineapple and un-shelled macadamias. Later did a beach walk to North Burleigh. Treated to another fine sunset from the apartment. One of the little videos shows how a currawong tests the acoustics of the apartments all around The Burleigh Farmers Market runs every Saturday from 7 to noon in the grounds of the Burleigh Heads State School which is basically on the other side of our block and across the Gold Coast Highway from our home away from home. So, a short walk there, but it feels longer going home fully loaded with fruit & veg. Next time we will take the 2-wheel shopping cart! Beach walked from Burleigh Beach north, over the knob and up to Venice street exit to get Jan her favorite macadamia - lemon myrtle yogurt at the green-grocer and then bused home. The little video shows how we are on the flight path for rainbow lorikeets coming home to roost. Didn't walk out to greet sunrise this morning - just snapped a few pick out a bedroom window. I did not want to wait for summer to get too hot and too crowded, so we walked to Burleigh Heads National Park to see the lower path through to Tallebudgera Creek. The footpath has been upgraded & fortified since the last time I walked it more than three years ago. She's a beaut now! About one kilometer each way.
Sunset through the den/office window, and some shots through stained glass pieces I made a few years back. Special post. Just one video captures the experience of the birds leaving their favorite overnight roost trees. But wait! There's more than just gorgeous cloud displays. There is also a cacophony of lorikeets leaving for their day-jobs. Then there is a fun coin wishing well in support of CWS & Australian wildlife set up at The Pines shopping centre. It was there that we bought a cooked pork roast with crackling to take home for lunch! Later, the sun set. The end!
