Looking around town & beaches. Spotted a peregrine on a look-out perch. Michaela drove us out to Bellingen for lunch. Old Butter factory shops are still there (mostly). Qudo was a new to us eatery and was very good.

Pie stop at Wood burn for a late breakfast. Traditional stop at the Info Centre/craft shop at Grafton - interesting free-spinning wooden spindles for yarn caught our eyes this time.
Butterfly on palm trunk - too far from the deck to tell what it was, so I used my Canon as binocular/spy-glass. Happy with result. Michaela showed us the walk through park reserve to the beaches. Great potential for beachcombing & shell searching. Once again at Palm Beach SLSC, but, we did try something new today - sweet chili prawns with rice & salad. The closer plate is our usual chicken snitzel plate. It was another fine day with a beauty beach view.
We met Barry, Violet & Patsy in M'bah for brekkie with artsy Indian & Japanese influences. High water marks from recent floods were pointed out. Then we took part in the art walk downtown.
Came home via the Tweed Coast road. Stopped for a beach walk at Casuarina. Went looking for koalas. Did not find any. BUT, there were lots of kangaroos & birds & other things to keep our cameras busy.
Drove through Surfers Paradise, up to Main Beach & then parked at the southern end of the spit. We were looking for rainbow bee eaters, as we had seen a couple here last December, but they were too far from the path to get close pictures. We did not have to walk very far before eagle-eye Jan spotted a pair. We think they were feeding a fledged youngster. The black & White bird is the Australian magpie.
Chuffed with a successful bird find, we celebrated by having laksa for lunch at the food court at Australia Fair. After lunch, we had a beach walk at Currumbin Beaches on the way home. The last picture is cautionary: do not park under a blooming golden penda tree! Gnarly. Steep & twisted. These are the hills we love to call home while we are here. Super kudos to the truck drivers that navigate them - turning a solid rig around at the end of the road is not easy!
After the toolbox talk at the Sanctuary (see other page) we had another lunch at Palm Beach SLSC. I will wait until we get back to North America before I buy any Cherries!! 2 pics of storms out to sea, obscuring the ocean sunrise.
2 pics of a tree, common in this city & very obvious when in bloom - the golden pinda. (I just learned that!) Market shopping: fruit, flowers, a sun-hat/visor for Jan, & fun with the Big Art installations.
An addition to the rainbow lorikeet flock on Currumbin Hill. A little squishy (Young gecko). Anna & Marc's table cat & friend. |
