So excited! Today is the day. I was not in the country for the opening of the Jeska Art gallery event, but this was my one chance to get down & see the exhibit before it closed. Took the Tweed Coast route south. Our usual brekkie stop at the truck servo at Chinderah, then onto Wooyong Beach just south of Pottsville. As usual, we had a wonderful wee walk on deserted sand. One quick stop for fruit & honey at a roadside stand & then on to the Arts & Industry Estate just before Byron Bay proper. Used Maps-Me app to get to Lune Gallery & the B**tards were CLOSED. Crap! I did my due diligence! I even private messaged them on FaceBook to make sure I would arrive all the way from Canada at a time that the gallery was open! B**tards!
Well, after that disappointment, we drove around Byron & up to the lighthouse looking at all the pay parking stalls that used to be free parking - Disgusting! We cut our losses & beat it back to the Goldie in time for lunch at Wahoo. At least that was up to expectations. (rant over) The day started out pretty normal for us: Pastel pinkish sunrise over the ocean. Brunch at the new Pancake Diner at The Strand in Coolangatta.
Then, the afternoon turned a bit unusual. Barbara&JJ invited me to tag along on their wombat walk! This is a new extra value add-on experience offered at CWS now. Keeper Beau was host for a real fun time! The last frame is a poor picture of one of the new Quokkas. How great is waking up in SE QLD? (rhetorical question)
A few pics of sunrise through gum trees, then I fixed myself brekkie - Toasted 9 grain pumpkin seed loaf with peanut butter, ginger marmalade, fresh local (ish) banana, and a sprinkle of cinnamon - YUM! Beach walk. Good as it gets. Lunch with friends at Palm Beach SLSC. Again, YUM! Then a solo walk through CWS. What a day! Crocodile smiles all-round. The rain was coming down, that is. We wanted to go into the Sanctuary, but after a couple of hours sitting on the cafe deck watching our world get we we decided to wait for a nicer weather day for in the park adventures.
Instead, we found a totally Aussie thing to do and had a sausage sizzle at Bunnings. He he, we said we were going there to buy the Bunnings special $10 umbrella (which we did), but the sizzle was one box to tick off our to-do list. Beautiful gum tree flowers in the parking lot at Stockland Burleigh Heads Shopping Centre. Saturday morning. Good, long sleep. Still up before dawn.
Ran a few errands. Resisted buying fleece-lined crocs at Aldi's! I'm baaaack! Or should I just say I'm in OZ again?
The AC flight from Vancouver to Brisbane was smooth & uneventful. Picked up the car that Brendan & Jill left for us at the airport, and drove it down the M1 and safely parked it in the garage. All good! After checking to make sure our beaches were still there we did a big grocery run and made it to the Sanctuary Market for an early supper. Could not stay awake past 6 PM - joys of jet-lag to come! |
