I like the kangaroo design on the side of the minibago.
Dead tree or installation art?
Sun shining through my cockie sun-catcher is always a good omen for me.

I planned a route between A and B that drove us by the Gold Coast Botanic Gardens. It was too hot for a major exploration, but we did stop for a short walk.
The black cockatoos have not been cooperating. By that I mean that they have not flown to the house and posed specially for my camera. We hear them & watch them flutter-fly by,usually at dawn & dusk, but they do not linger in our area. My pictures are at max-zoom and then highly cropped, but I think the shapes capture the essence of the bird. I mean, what bird is better than a black cockatoo to present as a silhouette?
January 26th was a Saturday, so today is the holiday Monday celebrating Australia Day. Friends John & Barb invited us over for a barbie. Sausages & prawns, to be sure! Joining us were the usual suspects - Rainbow lorikeets & sulphur-crested cockatoos. Cheers! January 26 is Australia Day, and we celebrated with a special trip to Bunnings for a sausage sizzle in support of a rural fire brigade. Back home on the hill, the crowd of rainbow lorikeets at the bird baths were so rambunctious that I found their antics interesting in their shadows. If that was a Hobbit title it would be There & Back Again. I'm in that frame of mind because I walked instead of using the car. I went through the Millers Drive entrance & admired the mural on the renovated food prep area. Also new to me were the pie cart located by the hospital/shows precinct and the native, stingless bee hives in the old bush tucker garden area.
I stopped at Visitor Services to get a new National Trust card on my way to the beach, as I also needed to renew my Vikings Currumbin SLSC membership. I climbed elephant rock & took a whole lot of pictures to show just how wonderful our beaches are on Australia Day afternoon. And some selfies to prove I was there! Hurry to get yours - ONLY 11 weeks until Easter!
While you are at the grocery store, why not sample all the flavors of Messy Monkeys? Jan had a hair appointment, so I dropped her off in the village & went for a walk. I sauntered over to the Currumbin RSL and renewed my membership. They have expanded the patio seating area, but they still have the lunch pizza special! I crossed the rebuilt railway bridge that connects to The Pines shopping centre.
There has been zero rain for ages, so the high creek level is due to high tide only. A little boat checked carefully before venturing under. The red flowers are on a passion-fruit vine. Wed. special at N. Kirra SLSC is 3 different tacos for $15. Found Vegemite & cheese Shapes snack cracker at a grocery store. The taste is OK - suitable for Aussie Day coming up on the 26th. I hesitate to use the word tradition, but, quite often Jan will meet me after a shift at CWS and we will drive to a surf club for lunch. N. Kirra is our new favorite, and today is the day I picked up my new 3-year membership card. Tasty and well presented!
Drove way north to Coomera, where Westfield has a new development. High tech underground parking - instead of pushing a button & getting a ticket, a camera at the gate takes a picture of the car's rego (license plate) and the bar is lifted. When you leave, another picture is taken & matched so time-stamps determine fee. I did not try because I was well within the free 3 hour limit, but apparently you can enter the rego number in a pay station to check your status.
While Jan was having a samosa for breakfast, I opted to try Burger'd. I was on the balcony taking full moon pictures and managed to capture an image of a glider. Too poor quality to be sure of species, but good enough to confirm that it is these guys that thump on the house roof most early (very early) mornings. |
