The way home was via MacLean and the huge flying fox fruit bat colony, and our favorite beach at Ballina.
First stop was our usual at the Grafton visitor center. The jacarandas did not seem quite so grand this year - our timing might be bit off, but this is the weekend for the Festival, a wood working show and dragon boat races. The way home was via MacLean and the huge flying fox fruit bat colony, and our favorite beach at Ballina.

Fine start to the day in our dog-walk neighborhood, including a friar-bird encounter. One pic of the newer area of Pac-Fair mall.
And then it was fright night at the Sanctuary Market. It was also a rare evening event for the park, er, Fanctuary. After we walked the dogs and we all had breakfast, Jan & I drove to the Spit & walked a good section of Federation Walk. Did not see the boa, bur we did spot , at a distance, rainbow bee eaters for the first time. Afternoon walk was back south at Billinga.
Not our usual route to Tumbulgum and Murwillumbah so we stopped a few extra times. We shared an AustralBurger & Florentine in M'bah before heading to Chillingham for Jan's usual pottery shopping stop at the Old Butcher Shop Gallery. Decided to come home by way of Natural Bridge National Park. Morning walk with the dogs, over the foot bridge to a little park (one of many in the area). Black swans. Gull & ibis.
Afternoon beach time. Did a grocery run on the way home and checked lottery tickets. Biggest win on this Australian visit so far, but we are still not breaking even, let alone living in the style in which we wish to become accustomed! Chinderah service center for brekky again, but this time trying out the Colonel's wraps & sandwiches. Then on to Bangalow Market and hot filled donuts for dessert.
Sunset from the dogs' home. 2-fer coupon at Burleigh SLSC - good to know that the Spanish omelet is still superb. Afterward, we did a little beach walk & shell hunt. Then I remembered that the GC Ceramic Award gallery at the GC Art Gallery was finishing this weekend. Went to check out this year's entries.
And then, this being Friday we went to the Sanctuary Market for an early supper. Good to see Jeska Art's Board is still being used to advertise next Friday's Fright Night Market. Who let the dogs out? I did! And when I did I noticed hot air balloons and the setting moon. We walked those dogs along Dunedin Drive where I got the picture of the traffic speed happy face - if a vehicle exceeds the limit, the happy face is replaced by SLOW DOWN! I bike through Burleigh & across the bridge to Tallebugera - the northern start of Palm Beach. We were invited up to lunch at potter Michaela's, in part to celebrate the sale of her acreage, Dessert was an elaborate bouquet of chocolate covered strawberry "flowers". At home in the afternoon I heard the ice-cream truck and ran out to get a video. Definitely different from out little trucks playing Music Box Dancer over & over to attract kids from all over the neighborhood. I explored the route to the beach by bike this morning - easy-peasy!
We went for our usual chicken snitzel at Palmy, and I have never seen so much whale activity! Must have been 200 splooshes (breaches, fin slaps, tail fluke splaches, etc.) in about 10 minutes, so we hurried home to get the big cameras and drove up to Point Danger. Well, there was not a parking spot on that whole hill, so plan B found us at Greenmount Hill. The whales were still active, but too far offshore for me to get spectacular pictures. It was still a good experience, tho. Early, early morning. Let dogs out. Notice full moon setting. Walk dogs & give them breakfast. Humans have breakie, then I get dressed in uniform for park volunteer shift (pics on other page). Lunch with Jan after shift at Tugun Tavern. Beach walk before going home for naps, doggie supper, people eats, etc...
