A cloudy sunrise before a trip to Southport, where we found a new statue in Chinatown.

Pandanas silhouette against sunrise rosiness.
Moonlight reflections in my big lens gave me some interesting images. And then there is Jan - also taking sunrise & moon-set picture, but the balcony view. Eastern horizon cloud-bank has been a constant dawn 'thing'.
Watching for spews & splooshes payed off again. There she blows! There were spouts, breaches, fin-flapping, and tail fluking. The last whale pic shows how close someone in a kayak was to the action. We returned the rental car today & then walked to the Tugun Tavern for lunch. Must remember that Monday is roast pork day - complete with crackle! Walked home on the beach - low tide, searching for interesting shells. Got home & I had a package in the mail. Before we left Canada I noticed that Australian Groupon had orthopedic flipflop-thongs on sale really cheap, so I purchased a pair & hoped they would find me. Today they did, and they are great. Carrara Market for kranskies, fruit & flowers.
Kirra Beach Kite Festival - drive-by & then distant views from the balcony. Late afternoon storms bring rainbows. Retirement means never having to say TGIF! Any day can be Friday (ish) if you want it to.
Sunrise breakfast on the balcony. Sanctuary Market for an early supper. We now have streets for our street food vendors! Cool, southerly winds on our beach walk up to Kropp Park outfall (storm drainage)
Drove one of our regular routes. Up Tomewin to Freeman's Farm to purchase lady finger bananas an a couple of huge lemons. Then on to Murwillumbah and pies for lunch at the Astral Cafe. Best time of day on the beach! Home by 6 or 6.30. Lots of time for coffees & breackie as the day warms up on the balcony. A magpie came for a short visit. Stayed on the rail just long enough to scope out the lack of food being offered! LOL
Whales go by every day, but are usually to far to get any great pictures. Cool nights - down to around 13C. With a screened section of window space in each bathroom, and no easy way to block them, that means the outside temperature is the inside temperature. The cloud bank to the east, off-shore, has been a constant thing at sunrise since we arrived. Daytime temperatures up around 20. Ocean water temp at 22C!
Big parts of what the lifestyle is all about. My morning walk starts before first light. Not a spectacular sunrise today, but still way nice to be out here.
A few pics of humpback whales, as seen from our balcony. Pies from Foster's Bakery taken to the beach for a quick lunch. Sunrise from the balcony, followed by a check-in with the CWS lorikeets and a stroll through the SWELL Sculpture Festival. I really think you should Google it!
Lunch on a surfboard table at JJ's Carvery with the Bretts. Yup, a mighty fine day! |
