We were in Tweed Heads industrial area (op-shopping for ties for Jan's craft projects) and decided to take the long way home - through Terra Nora to Tumbulgum to Murwillumbah for lunch at the Astral. While it was not a Canadian style poutine, it did combine hot chips, cheese, and gravy, as well as bacon bits! One plate shared stuffed both of us. I walked off a few lunch calories at the beach later in the afternoon.
Today is the day the orange construction fences came down around our new pat construction. We dropped the car (the wonderful little CLIO!) off in Southport for its annual service and bused to Australia Fair for a whole lot of sticky-beaking. The gates of Chinatown are looking prime. By the time we got home in the afternoon, the winds had picked up and the water looked quite rough.
Ah, a fine looking Monday morning. Let's go see if we can find any wild koalas up at Coombabah!
No surprise, we found roos first - Eastern Grey Kangaroos. And duck. And raptors. And a pelican, too! But after a lot of neck strain looking up into the gum trees, Jan did spot a furry bum on a limb. Success! More roos. More looking up. No more koalas today, so we came back to take more pictures of the one little schmoo we knew where to find. Drove around to another side of Coombabah and walked the boardwalk. Then home to our own beach for a low tide walk. Another great day! Morning has broken! Good looking day.
John & Barb took us touring down to Bangalow for another most excellent market day. Came home via Mullumbimby and a visit to another fruit bat colony. Strange looking fruit hanging from the trees, huh? Must be Mooball - the big bike & the cowhide patterns painted on poles are a dead cert!
Lismore Pie Cart - now that we know they have frozen pies to take away, and that we have room in our freezer, this was all bout stocking up for the next month. Until we noticed the nearby tree was in bloom, then it was all about the flowers! Did a very low tide walk at Ballina, and got home for a pre-supper walk from the apartment to Currumbin Vikings. I know it has been windy when the water's edge is littered with dune-grass-seed-tumbleweeds. Our path continues to creep toward completion. View from Currumbin Ridge Estates: as evening darkened the full moon made its presence known.
After my long shift in Koala Photos, we caught up with Jill & Brendan who were home for a short visit. Overcast morning, but the sun did squeek through at the horizon.
Way back, when we lived in Mermaid Waters, we used to buy a lot of our fruit & veg at Yuen's (Sunshine Boulevard at Markeri Street). Not so much anymore, but today as we were driving past I pulled in for a sticky beak (peek). Nicely renovated store with lots of selection, but what really caught my eye was the clearance corner - whole boxes of mixed fruit & veg past their prime on sale for $3 a box! Mega value. Very little waste if used or processed soon. Meanwhile, at the Super Q Center, the banana peel slippery when wet sign is SO cute. Not the usual lunch at Palm Beach SLSC. Tried sides of fried chicken and a plate of loaded fries. Our new shared path is mostly poured, and our southern GC beaches are still lightly used. |
