Great sky reveal this morning. Managed to get a couple of clips of the very noisy rainbow lorikeets leaving the night-roosts. We walked the beach over the hill to the Mermaid side, checked in with an ex-volunteer friend in his apartment, and then got a Foster's Bakery meat pie for lunch. Sunset was alright, but not nearly as dynamic as sunrise.

Bused to Currumbin, walked to Vikings SLSC, walked up the stairs at Elephant Rock, and the went into CWS to feed lorikeets & meet more old friends. Even tried the meat pie and fresh cinnamon sugar donuts down by the hospital area! Getting the hang of using phone in wallet style cover.
We started with a climb up to the observation deck on Elephant Rock, and then meandered over to the Sanctuary to get in on some lorikeet feeding. We met some friends of the staff, volunteers, & animals kind and spent a pleasant morning enjoying the park. About 11 AM we HAD to try some new in-the -park food options, and will freely endorse the meat pies and cinnamon-sugar donuts! There was another, different sunset display outside our hinterland facing windows. All of these pics and the dozen short videos below were taken with my Canon SX740. (Oops, except the one Jan took of me taking a pic from the top of Elephant Rock!)
Up to see the lorikeets leave for the day & for the sun to come up. Decided to get the feel of the car on the highway, and to sort-of learn this vehicle's cruise-control. Got on to the Tweed Coast road to Casuarina for a brief beach stop. Saw some black cockatoos & have a VERY short video to prove it. On to Cabarita and then to Wooyung - favorite beach. Brahminy kite posed in one of the dune trees. Drove home inland via the cheese store & Murwillumbah. Taking lots of shots with my phone & my little Canon to compare quality. Canon wins, so I will keep packing it!
Not a lot of energy after shift, but did manage to get out to the beach for a bit. I even found a beach-button! AKA Eye of Shiva, or simply a turban snail's operculum or trap-door. Rainbow lorikeets come to the Norfolk pines to roost every night near dusk. The sunset views are the hinterland out from the kitchen window!
EARLY morning rainbow lorikeet exodus. Lunch at Wahoo! One fish taco each plus a bowl of hot chips to share. More walks. We have been exceeding our old normal walking distance around the breakwater district back in Canada by a considerable amount almost every day here. Still do most of our steps in the early morning hours.
Coles grocery stores have been doing ads for a new product - Vegemite rotisserie chicken! Bought one today & took it home for lunch. Disappointing! I am not a big Vegemite fan, but I could not taste any, even on the skin. Our hosts had some Marmite available so I added a little to my slice of breast. I know it is not the official name, or even what locals call it, but I refer to the little headland that divides Burleigh Beaches from Nobby/Mermaid Beaches "The Nobby Knob". The climb up the hill to the observation decks is one of my traditional favorites. After the beach, we needed a few groceries and walked to the little Woolies in Burleigh Heads. All of the pics of street / building art are from the lanes in that area. My old hand-me-down phone crapped out on me and I was forced to buy a new one. I took shots from home and nearby beaches, just to get used to handling it.
