On to Whakatane (/fɑːkəˈtɑːni/ fah-kə-TAH-nee; Māori pronunciation: [fakaˈtaːnɛ]. Blundered onto Ohope beach and marveled at the scads of fine looking shells all over the beach. Took bunches of pictures of oyster-catchers & had a picnic lunch before getting back on the road to Lake Taupo with its majestic glacier capped mountains in the background. Quick bite & wifi check at Maccas before continuing on to Napier.
