Beach shots fro the Burleigh heads beach deck make it look like another perfect day in paradise. Go figure!

I managed to get some dawn colours & videos of a few small groups of lorikeets leaving this morning. We timed a shopping trip around off peak bus fares to Pacific Fair. Heard good news that David Jones (Aussie icon high-end department store) is back under Australian control. Beach shots fro the Burleigh heads beach deck make it look like another perfect day in paradise. Go figure!

Gold Coast City Council has spent millions over the few years since we have visited The Spit. The best thing they did was install a much needed major new toilet block (not pictured). Walkways were improved & people spaces were added.
Our planned visit to Carrara Markets turned into just a parking lot tour as there were no spaces at all where we are used to parking! We took the car home & parked it for the rest of the weekend, and walked over to the twice a month Village Market at Burleigh school. From there we walked the long way home via the beach. Jan managed to get a couple of glass lorikeets off the ledge & test mount them in the window. Whilst some tradies were were doing some body corporate based repairs to our apartment we decided to get out for lunch. Lismore pie cart is always on our list and today turns out to be the only day we could lunch there on this Aussie vay-cay. The cart did not disappoint! Beef, bacon & cheese, pepper steak, and apple - all cut in half to share. SO good! Then back to our home beach for a barefoot walk. Sigh. :) Shopping for groceries includes lots of fruit & veg. Our favourite mangoes, R2E2, are plentiful & a decent price, so we bought a flat just for the two of us!
We ate out for lunch at an old standby - the Nobby Beach SLSC. We got the traditional bowl of potato wedges, which comes with sour cream and sweet chili sauce. To that we added salt & pepper squid, and a side of pepper sauce (gravy). YUM! Storm clouds came over the hinterland at dusk, but the rain held off until well after dark. The lorikeets cooperated with noisy mass departures past our windows today. Unfortunately my little Canon performs dimly in dim lighting. The video may not exhibit good bird definition, but it conveys the feels of the moment. Once a month the Tuesday crew goes out for lunch after shift. We went to one of the groups go-to places, the Tugun Beach SLSC, but it was closed due to staff shortages. We went to plan B and fortunately North Kirra SLSC was functional. The NK Burger was a tall order! ;) I intended to video the clamor of the lorikeets leaving this morning. It' inconceivable, but I failed! Oh well, there will be many more mornings to try.
Couldn't resist taking a picture of the bus-stop ad as we waited for out #700 bus along the GC Highway. Between lorikeets leaving and returning we visited friends in their posh Palm Beach absolute ocean-front apartment. Fantastic views from the balconies! Walked over to the Burleigh Heads market for veg & fruit. Noticed a tree on the way that has big blue seeds/berries, about the size of cherries. I asked Jan with her i-phone app, and then Mr.G, to find out that it is known by many names. The one I like is blueberry ash tree. It is listed as endemic to eastern Australia and is considered bush tucker. (Next time I will collect a few to sample!) From the observation deck at Burleigh Beach we watched an epic zodiak failure to launch. The guys just could not seem to be able to keep the outboard motor motoring. No worries, though, as it was the spare craft. I had a hankering for pie for breakfast so we went to a favorite - Yatala Pies. We managed to get all the way there without traveling on the M1, so that was a good way to start the day.
From there we did get on the freeway for a short drive to IKEA for Jan to do a minor bit of retail therapy. I did my shopping at Harbour Town on the way home - got a new mouse for my laptop & lottery tickets. :) |
