And just how Christmasy is a $3 box of fruit from Yuen's?
The plush koala Jan bought has a name - Adelaide! She is posing with a couple of cards from my Thursday Koala Photos team. And just how Christmasy is a $3 box of fruit from Yuen's?

These are some things we have done before. I got spiffed up (well I put on my new Christmas t-shirt!) and took Jan down to the Sanctuary for a koala cuddle & professional photo. Afterward, Jan bought a very cute plush koala, and we fed the lorikeets on the way out. In & done before 9!
I have also previously taken pictures of artworks on booze bottles at Dan Murphy's, and we are no strangers to lunch at a surf club. This is the view from Tugun SLSC. Traditions? Not necessarily, but we do like doing things like this year after year! Thanks to Barb & John for hosting. They provided kitchen & dining room. Jan brought the ingredients and whipped up a Vietnamese bun (vermicelli salad). I stayed out of the way & ate at the appropriate time. Well, we all ate & had a good time socializing!
Early Sunday morning shopping trip to what used to be OUR mall. Not anymore. Unrecognizable from when we were here in 2009-2011. Totally up-scale now. Grand displays for the 12 days of Christmas. A courtesy taxi for use inside the shopping center. Massive male/female indicators for a set of toilets. (As I waited to get empty hall pictures I was amazed at how many people were confused about which way to go at the end of the hall!)
This Coles had an entire section for New Zealand products! I wonder how many Australian grocery stores do this. And, just because we are in Australia, a picture of a bug on the deck. Might be a stink-bug, but I didn't poke it to be sure. ;) Moved out of our beachfront rental appartment this morning & moved up to the house on Currumbin Hill again. Sulphur crested white cockatoo, orb-weaver spider, hinterland vista & a discarded fan (just a little rusty!).
Prelude to our move up the hill, I refreshed the water dishes / bird baths and was greeted by these 2. To be fair, Canada does have sunrises & sunsets, but, the sunrise over Coolangatta/Tweed Heads can be spectacular.
In Australia, crackle on a pork roast is common, but this year Coles big TV ads are for ham with crackling. But, at $20/kg it is a bit too dear to purchase. Coles also had Sausage Roll Wreath, Apple Spiced Pork Belly Bites, and Bundaberg Rum Eggnog in their grocery stores. Blue & white glaucus nudibranchs are beautiful to me - and the prey on bluebottles (ie. Portuguese Man-o-War). Sadly, a sandman on the beach is a poor substitute for a good old fashioned Canadian snowman! The flamboyant tree is one that we can see out of our apartment bedroom balcony. We drove over to find it for a closer look. If you squint, you can see me in the driver's seat of Jill's car.
Afternoon beach walk was not too windy, but lots of glaucus nudibranchs had washed ashore. Our walk back home was on the new shared path. We field tested every new park bench along the way! Sunset from Pacific Surf was one of the better color displays this season. Our goal today was to check out a new shopping center up at Hope Island. There 2 of 3 major grocery stores, but nothing remarkable. Our stop at Harbour Town was more interesting. Festive beach themed decorations reminded me of beach candles that Jan used to make from sands collected on various tropical holidays.
Bumblebee movie is coming soon. I was curious and impressed with a red locker installation along one mall wall. Classic red Australia Post color & logo. 24/7 parcel lockers! Send a parcel. Collect a parcel. Touch screen with a button to click for instructions. Never seen anything like this. I was hungry be the time we got to Carrara Markets, so I had a New Zealand breakfast for lunch! Just another flamboyant tree in bloom against a lovely blue sky. That's all. A fabulous flamboyant tree just down the street from our sometimes home-on-the-hill.
We took John & Barb on a little Gold Coast gallery tour this morning. First stop was at 19 Karen, before crossing to the beach side of the CG Highway to visit the Royal Queensland Art Society gallery just across the road from SLS Tower #30 at Broadbeach. Both galleries had lots of pieces that meet my personal likability criteria! For lunch we tried, and we all favorably impressed with, a new Vietnamese restaurant in Mermaid Beach - L'Viet Palais. |
