...lunch after my shift! Today it was the Tugun SLSC. Chicken burger for me & chicken snitzel for Jan. It is starting to look a lot like summer out there! Oh, and some rust I found earlier in the Sanctuary.

Sunrise colors from Currumbin hill. Drove Currumbin Creek Road to Tomewin Road, across the border to Chillingham for visits to Buck's Farm/Bush Tucker Garden and the nearby old butcher shop pottery. Austral Cafe in Murwillumbah painted over the menus on the wall and now have read-in-your-hand menu books. We decided to share hot chips-bacon-cheese-and gravy. Closest thing to poutine that we have seen in Australia (so far!). Took the long way home via Tropical Fruit World, Madura Tea, a roadside bromeliad trailer, and the Tweed Coast Road.
My turn to drive today. M1 south to the Bangalow turn-off. King George memorial & French pastry stop. Country road south from Bangalow goes through Clunes and a big metal sculptor's farm before getting to Lismore. Downtown stroll & op-shop browsing before lunch pies from the pie cart. Left Lismore to go to the coast to see Ballina and Lennox Head before heading to the Macadamia Castle on the way home.
Eumundi Markets. Huge! Fresh out of the oil cinnamon-sugar mini-donuts make a great first, second or third breakfast. ;)
Buderim - ginger & nuts. Montville, Melany, & Beerwah - including a drive-past of Australia Zoo. Last stop was at a nursery-fruit & veg. market/coffee & pie shop. Jan & I ordered a different pies & the bloke labeled the his & hers! Thanks B & JJ for driving us. Time for some big screen Marvel fun. We went to the first show of the day at Australia Fair. It was a new experience for us as this time the show was designated as BYB - Bring Your Baby. Turns out we could get in without bringing one, so we bought our tickets. The babies & parents that were there were all well behaved and we totally enjoyed the flick. (Wish babies on flights between Canada & Australia were so quiet!)
There are however, a picture of a pair of cute quokkas, some lovely ginger blossoms, and a series of photos of a couple of water dragons chasing between my legs & under my chair on a lunch break at the Sanctuary. To see the cute koala pics, click on the CWS link above!
Super thanks to Barbara & JJ for using their vehicle to drive us down to Grafton for the Jacaranda Festival and Woodworkers Show & Sale. Our first rest stop had a surprise - roosters crowing to be fed! The converted church, Our Daily Bread, was open so we HAD to stop & check it out - good coffee & cake. Lots of purple wonderfulness all over the city of Grafton! Stopped for lunch at our usual bar - $10 steak comes with a "pot" of beer - my fingers are merely there for a size reference. The Grafton Visitor Info place always has nice pond lilies, but this time we saw lots of little fish, a turtle, and an eel! Stops on the way home included a deer farm, Ulmarra (wood & antiques), and Scottish town, MacLean. |
