A few pics on the state of construction of the new dune path. A lunch pie from Foster's Bakery, eaten at Miami Beach.
Lots of progress on our path as we went down for a late afternoon beach-walk. Still masses of flooaty things washed ashore.
More proof that life is a beach, that is. Early morning walk had lots of marine stingers & little sails (Velella), and one clump of pelagic goose-neck barnacles.

I was up for a dawn beach-walk, south to lifeguard tower #7. A few blocks of the new shared path is completed. It will be wonderful when it is done from Bilinga north to Tugun!
At the end of the access back to the beach there was a Brahmini kite, sitting on the sand, looking like he was scavenging something dead. It turned out to be a pair of flip-flop-thongs! Silly bird. Around mid-day, Jan & I walked to Tugun Village & to the beach at Tower 9. The last picture is taken from our balcony. A big bird was 'hovering' over the surf, probably fishing. Too far for me to get a good picture, but I reckon it is a white bellied sea eagle! Woke to total overcast, but no rain. I managed 2 beach walks today - OK, they were short, but, hey, I'm jet-lagged!
Much construction progress on the new shared dune-front pathway. Many fair-sized bluebottles (AKA Portuguese-man-o-war, AKA marine stingers) on the beach. Three & a half hours. Mostly cloudy. Then bucketing rains greeted us on the ground. HUGE thanks to John & Barbara for the airport pickup & driving us on a few errands to get us started on settling in!
We TRIED to stay awake, but we did not quite make it to 6PM before ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ... The start of the long flight. We leave on the 13th & get there on the 15th, so I'll just post this one pic here.
The ride was bumpy enough often enough that we did not get much sleep! |
