Ship dredges up deep off-shore sand & sprays it closer to shore for the tides to build the beach. I plan too follow up with pictures of the boat spewing its load!

No idea what kind of shroom this is, but the unusually wet winter weather here has lots of things sprouting.
Afternoon feed for the lorikeets at CWS, followed by food from a new vendor at the Sanctuary Markets.
Wet weather is good for mushrooms. Mushrooms are doing pretty darn good now. I have no idea what this thin species is.
The black-bean tree has pods up to a foot long. These pod halves were left on a table and filled with rain. More heavy rains today. Airport run to pick up Michaela & Dieter from their China holiday. Had time before ETA to visit a (flea)- market in a Coffs car park.
Lots of rain. Sometimes torrential downpours. There is a temporary river running through the parkway at the foot of the property.
We saw FB reports of a beached whale at Sawtell, between here and Coffs Harbour, so we went to have a look. Unfortunately, the juvenile grey whale could not be rescued. Very sad. Decided we better have a look at the Nambucca Heads train station before our stay here is over. It is a pretty little place, and has poinsettia trees along the parking area. The bat colony here is noisy, stinky, & centrally located! After a short rapid fire camera session we walked along the Nambucca Heads foreshore walk, and then the V-wall (breakwater/ rip-rap path) - lots of painted or tiled rocks. We even managed a wee walk at Shelly Beach, and a noon showing of Wonder Woman!
Drove through Bellingen & up the plateau to Dorrigo. Cool daytime temps (+10C) so we walked little & decided to save real exploring for another visit in summer.
Drove back to the coast in time for a $7 lunch at the Valla beach tavern (good - on par with the Nambucca Heads tavern $7 lunch). Then we found a new access to the beach from across a wooden trestle bridge. The eastern grey kangaroo posing with a willie-wagtail (bird) on its back was taken in the early morning on the edge of Nambucca. Good exercise, all this walking beaches & bending over to inspect shells. The crowds of summer are long gone, but daytime temperatures on the beach get to the 18 to 20 degree C range (lows 10 to 14).
Today we tried out the $7 lunch special at the tavern on Nambucca's main drag. TOTALLY good! Short drive north to visit Southern Cross Pottery gallery and a woodworker nearby. |
