Raining this morning. A good time to find my travel umbrella in less than useful condition. No wurries! Just walk over to an op-shop & buy a brollie good enough for the duration of our stay. We intended to go on a sunset beach walk, but the wind was at just the right speed & angle to sandblast our shins. Not a big problem, but we did trade beach for pathway a bit earlier than planned. Always enjoy time with the rainbow lorikeets coming home to roost. After a stroll to the main Surfers' Paradise beach we walked a block inland & caught the G to Parlkands. We walked along the shoreline & peeked at the water transportation.Perhaps we might ride the Hopo on another excursion. Highlighting one of the stained glass lorikeets that flew all the way from my craft shop (AKA a corner of my garage) in Canada to CWS.
Also: spider, bronzewing sun-baking in front of a sitting stilt, swallow, fruit-dove. And sunbeams at sunset to cap a very good day! Nice sky colours at dawn. Up with plenty of time to get ready for WORK. Yah, look at me in my official park-ranger volunteer hat! I know I will take too many pictures today at CWS, but when I get them sorted I will post them on the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary tab here:
ozagain.weebly.com/currumbin-wildlife-sanctuary Cracking dawn with the local lorikeets.Early on the beach, too - lots of personal space. Another day; another plumber - this one was good enough to trace the source of the leak to a worn out dishwasher hose in the unit above us. I unwrapped three stained glass lorikeets that I brought from Canada. Several Sunday beach walks. Even running errands and grocery shopping can be a beach walk if one sets one's mind to it! Up with the birds - before the sun! Not my idea of a perfect bucket list, but we emptied about 10 liters of water from a garbage can under the kitchen ceiling leak. Investigations are on-going. Saturday morning market at the school-yard, about a block away. Bought oodles of fresh veg & fruit - and our first pies of this trip. Bused to Pac-fair to the electronics store - JB's, as my old travel laptop has crapped out. I had in mind a USB network adapter that I expected to pay about 50 bucks for. This store was out of stock. Rats! So I bought a new laptop instead!! I expect days & days of getting it set up the way I want it. Home for lunch & then beach. The videos: 6:15 AM garbage/recycle pick-up next door. These drivers are amazing. We landed in Brisbane airport & had time to get new Aussie SIM Cards for our phones from the Vodafone kiosk before it was time to board our ConXions bus to the Gold Coast.
We were a bit jet-legged & dozy, but we perked right up when we got to the apartment & discovered water leaking from a crack in the kitchen ceiling. Frantic activity including calls to the owners in New Zealand, the on-site building manager, and a plumber. Investigations were started, but not immediately resolved. So, what's a guy to do? Well, one word - BEACH! |
