Recent storms have washed up a bunch of spongie-things.
Morning walk, before the day heats up too much! Good to feel the Pacific on my feet again. Recent storms have washed up a bunch of spongie-things.

A rosy start to the day! Met friends Linda & Lee for breakfast at the surf club. Despite reports of sub-par food & poor service of late, we found they were providing the same old level of performance (good).
I made sure to check the time for the 3 hour parking as the lot is notorious for parking enforcement. With all the rains we have had since we got here, we have not seen our usual flocks of rainbow lorikeets at our bird baths. Well, the weather has improved and the birds are back splashing! We tried the Burleigh Sports Club for a frugally priced lunch. Good enough to put on our 'once a month' eat out list. (winks!) Sulfur-crested cockatoos were making more than usual ruckus, so we looked to see why. A very wet & obviously distresses possum was being closely followed & harassed. Poor little guy shouldn't even be out & about in the daytime.
Well, we were just going to Tweed Mall to pick up a few things, but it was raining so hard I had to pull over and wait for it to let up a bit. We did accomplish our mission, and on the way home I drove by the Sanctuary. It was closed due to flooding!!!
Back home, rainy images of eucalyptus leaves & birds trying to shelter. It is not raining and the early sky looks promising.
For a change, some of the yellow tailed black cockatoos landed in trees close to the house. Not great photography, but this is much better than just hearing & seeing them fly by. I am looking forward to a decent day to work my first shift back at CWS. Check the next tab to see how I went! (Spoiler alert: it was great!) Expectations met and exceeded. I had 2 goal in mind when we drove to the Southport shopping center - a good bowl of laksa and a cheep haircut. I knew exactly what to expect from soup served by the Sea Emperor. I was not disappointed. Yum.
I had very low expectations for the $10 but a ticket from a vending machine & wait for your number to be called to get a haircut at a place called Go Cutt. It was good from the get-go! No waiting for me! Stepped right up & sat down. A pleasant young man asked me what I wanted & set to work as I told him. Expectations exceeded! The cut is exactly what I would have gotten for 25 to 30 dollars from other barbers I have used along the Gold Coast. :) ...these are a few of my favorite things!
But I like clear sky sunrises even more, so I'm really hoping all the clouds & rain go away for a while. Barry took us up to Kirra Hill Community and Cultural Centre image gallery to see exhibits by him and by Violet on display. Unfortunately, the gallery was closed, so I had to settle for sneaky-peeks through windows. I did manage to recognize myself in my wildlife volunteer uniform holding a koala buddy - Bunker. While on Kirra Hill, I had to visit the rusty eagle as it is scheduled for removal soon. Went to JJ's on Golden Four Drive for lunch. Jan & I split a works-burger & chips, and rinsed it down with a new to us finger lime brew. |
