Shell & flip-flop/thong graveyard. Even a dead spider on the beach amongst the shells & pebbles. The row of palms was planted in 1975. The butterfly was down by Kirra.

After my Sunday shift at the Sanctuary, we were treated to a drive out Bilambil way. New to use roads, so close to the coast. Ilnam Winery was closed by the time we went by, but will try to keep it in mind for future reference. The artists house is on Kenedy Drive ( Tweed Heads).
The storm trooper back pack was worn by a visitor to CWS! I don't have much energy for anything but the koalas on Saturdays, so only a few pictures on this page. A type of tamarind. We skipped a beach walk and settled for sitting and watching the surf until sundown.
Morning light on some barnacle remnants. Good way to start the a day; mostly just me & the gulls on the beach to greet the dawn.
The high stacked bun was a special breakie roll at the Dunes Cafe in Palm Beach, which was the venue for the monthly CWS volunteer social this month. Walking beside the dunes later, we saw fairy wrens in a flowering yucca plant. On to the Sanctuary for a late afternoon meal at the Friday Market. Just HAD TO check out how Blinky Bill interacted with the afternoon lorikeet feeding before chatting with Jeska about her art and Gallery. Cloud types and positions make for excellent colors this morning!
Found what I think is a nudibranch on the beach. At home later I saw the Mermaid Beach Running Man! Good to see he is still at it, as we first saw him about 5 years ago. I discovered I can easily ride the bike to the Sanctuary in less than 45 minutes. (not sure if I would like the ride home after a shift, though) Pictures of the art/muffler-planters in the Tallebugeera beach parking lot. Moth, gallahs, and a praying mantis - all very close to home. Wednesday started with some eerie dawn light. That's our street, looking up from the dunes, and the beach views from my usual access.
We went to The Sanctuary this morning, just to say hi to my old crew, and to try to take more cute critter pictures. Wound up in Coolangatta for lunch at Fisherman's Cove. Then gawked at the gallahs back home. Yup, just another day of doing nothing all day long! :) Sometimes retirement can be SO confusing (hehehe): figuring out what day of the week it is, and remembering all day long, can be a challenge. First world problem, you say? OK, not a biggie.
There is a wee gap in daily posting on this page due to only taking shots at work that I put on the Currumbin page, and the rare event of me not taking ANY pictures on the 12th (!). This morning I went for a short bike ride down the coast. Didn't go too far, but I did include a couple of hills on the route. Gallahs (pink & grey cockatoos) have come to feed on a tree (Casuarina ) in the sport around by our apartment. We watched them for a while on our way to the bus stop. From the end of the line (the tram station) we walked to the casino to ride the monorail across to the Oasis shopping centre. From there we bused the back roads to downtown Surfers Paradise. OOOh, we were out til after dark and caught the tram & bused home. Four very noisy motorized ultra-light glider thingies circled overhead around Miami and Burleigh. Not a bad thing at all, except for the timing - between 4:30 and 4:45 AM. They made bloody sure no one was asleep on this Saturday! Twas barely light - the sun doesn't even rise until 5! (Of course I was up already, but I don't impose my state of upness on others. RUDE!)
The day started normal. Went for my early beach walk. Captured a pelican encounter (see video at bottom of post). Found Jan on the balcony in the sun when I got home. Bused to Robina Station, via Bond University and Varsity Lakes, Michaela picked us up & took us to her place in the Mudgeeraba hills for lunch. Views of the coast from there are sublime. Chilled out back at home-beach before sundown. Not all fish stories are about fish. Or seagulls. This one is about a pelican that must not have been very hungry.
