More time up close to koalas. Thanks to the Volunteer Manager for filling the freezer with icy cold treats!

That's how my shift started, but the birds & I dried off quickly. I had my picture taken holding an alligator (not a croc!). The flowers are kangaroo paws, also in the lorikeet arena. I got rained on again while on duty at the back of the train. A water dragon found a spot of sun to recharge its solar batteries.
Quokka.
Water dragon & boot in devil's pen. Red roos resting. Cassowary. Crocodiles (salties & freshies) Big red roo Joey still nursing. Tammar wallaby with joey looking out of pouch. Egret at ell feed. Magpie goose. All the usual suspects, plus a couple of freeloaders that came in with the gum branches. Handled with care as the first is a stink bug (I still do not know what the smell is like, so I must be doing something right!). The last collage is me letting a stick insect crawl to my high points.
Eastern water dragons and buff-banded rails are a couple the many species found in the Sanctuary that are not stock animals. They are not inventoried or fed by wildlife staff but wander freely throughout the park - unlike our swamp wallabies and emu. |
